This summer at El Segundo Public Library (ESPL) not only offers fun summer-reading programs for kids and adults, it also provides plenty of cultural enrichment via art and music.

“Portals to Memory,” the stunning new mural downstairs in the Friends of the Library room, was recently completed by renowned muralist Nanibah Chacon, with input from artist Mercedes Dorame and help from the El Segundo community. Its rich colors and Tongva imagery are worth checking out again and again. While you’re studying the mural, be sure to notice its cog-stone iconography, the blue butterflies, and the coastal buckwheat that sustains those El Segundo Blues.

Another cultural treat offered by our local library this summer is LA-based bassist Derrick Anderson’s El Segundo Art Walk photography debut in July. Anderson is an accomplished musician who has performed and toured with the Bangles, among many other famous rock bands, and now brings his keen photographic eye to El Segundo’s Art Walk on July 18. Meet Derrick and enjoy his striking abstract photography of seemingly ordinary objects from 5-9pm July 18th at ESPL.
